Tactical RPG Wartales sees you taking part in a series of turn-based battles as you level and gear up your companions. However, it’s not all about the battles. The game has a sandbox vibe, but each region has its own overarching story, broken down into a series of often interlocking Scenario Quests. While I’ve found the moral dilemmas these can throw up often only offer you bad choices and rarely have much impact long-term, they do spice up your tale. One of these involves the Femme Fatalequest in Vertruse Provinceand whether or not you should capture Corene.
Wartales Femme Fatal quest and the fate of Corene
You’ll pick up the Femme Fatale quest fromBrunhildeatAlazar Abode, which is just along the road northwest ofBrownrock Townalong the edge of the forest. She’ll spin you a yarn about why she wants you tocapture Coreneand how to find her. At this point,you have no choicebut to capture and return her, even if you don’t feel compelled to do so if you want to complete theVertruse Province scenario.Your actual choice about what to do with Corene will come later. The reward is a Pristine Essence, 100 Krowns, and 20 Scenario points (so one-fifth of the total you need).

Where is Corene’s caravan?
The caravan she travels with regularly moves along the road between Winfel Estate and Marheim. Note that you’ll needChainsto capture Corene, and you’ll have tocapture herduring a battle with the caravan’s guards (you want the wagon with theYellow and Black Shield icon). It can be confusing, as the purple scenario quest on the map doesn’t correspond precisely where you’ll find her. The caravan will move right along the road.
Capturing Corene will cost you120 Suspicion, so you’ll have to return her cross country to avoid the guards (luckily, it’s a relatively short trip). If youkill her accidentallyduring the fight, it will immediately start over, so you may’t permanently fail the quest. After handing her over, continue until you have100 percent scenario completionin the area. That will trigger aconcluding section of the scenario quest, after which the zone will be complete.
Should you help Brunhilde or Corene?
You’ll then have the choice ofbattling Brunhilde to free Corene, improving your standing in Vertruse, or helping Brunhilde escape with Corene as her captive to Alazare, where she promises you aid later. If captured, Brunhilde says she’ll report that you assisted in the kidnap, so you’re on very murky ground. So as always in Wartales,both options have their pluses and minuses. I suggest you go with your roleplaying heart or with aid Brunhilde for an easier ride later in the game.
