I love hidden objects and search games just as much as the next person, and believe it or not, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is not just astealth gamebut includes some scavenger hunt elements as well. Apparently, Gollum has a bit of a sentimental side, or perhaps his more docile half, Smeagol, because he can find various little bits and bobs from his journey to add to his collection. One collectible in the first chapter can be pretty easy to miss, so here’s some help tracking it down.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Chapter 1 Collectible Location
The first chapter is quick to get through and is mainly to help teach the player how to climb and jump different obstacles so it becomes second nature. However, there is a collectible to grab as you make your way through, and it is straightforward to miss. I played through the level three times before noticing the branching path. So here’s how to find it more easily:
Very soon after learning how toFar Jump, you’ll have to make a wild jump across the gap and climb up some vines into another cavern area. You’ll know you’re getting close when Smeagol comments onhaving to make another Far Jump, and Gollum replies that they’ve done it so many times. In this cavern area, there is an underpass where you’re able to continue forward for the story; however, you’ll want to look upwards at the rocks forming a branching slope to a hidden entrance.

You’ll want to climb up these rocks, jump across each one, and walk across the makeshift bridge until you see the wall opening. I fell a couple of times trying to make it across, but it can help to utilize your Far Jump. To get through the entrance, you’ll need to crawl. You can make Gollum crawl by holdingRBon your controller.
Once through the gap, you’ll find theWhetstoneon the ground. You can pick it up withY, which will automatically be added to your collection. If this isn’t your first time playing through the chapter, you can return to the Main Menu and look at it in yourCollectiblesmenu.
Keep your eyes peeled for more shiny little tokens as you continue your journey. It helps to look out for any climbing spaces branching away from the mission; they are usually hiding in plain sight.
