Eco-friendly world sim Terra Nil puts you at the heart of a huge terraforming project. Use machines to reintroduce life to a dead world, then tear them all down again once you have reintroduced enough wildlife and animals for it to sustain itself once more. The initial Temperate Region can be quite challenging, but the following Tropical Region adds several new challenges. If you’re having a few problems read on for our Terra Nil Tropical Region walkthrough.

How to complete the Desolate Island Tropical Region in Terra Nil

Before we get going take a look at the top right of the screen, where you’ll see Temperature and Humidity gauges. You also start with machines (theCloud SeederandCombustor) that can affect both of these stats. Finally, note that your Irrigator has a new gauge, which is currently in theGoodzone. If you can get the temperature u from Good into the solid greenIdealzone, you’ll earn extra income when creating greenery.

Of all the optional climate goals, the one that really makes a difference isThunderstorms Begin. Once you hear the rumble of thunder, and rain begins to fall,Wastelandtiles will slowly turn to greenery andPolluted Oceanspaces will be cleaned. This of course makes life a lot easier, so if you’re close to triggering this at any point it is worth going out of your way to do so.

How to reach 100 percent greenery and clean water

The first thing to realize is that clean water is just as relevant in reaching your initial goal as greenery, so don’t be shy about placingToxin Scrubbersnext to the water. You’ll be needing plenty of clean water for the biome and animal stages, plus cleaning it gives you some income, so it’s a win-win. Beyond this, your goal is similar to that in the Temperate Region, only it is tougher to get good value out of yourIrrigatorsdue to the large areas of water. You may want to read ahead to theanimal sectionin particular now, as some of the habitats can be quite tricky to create if you haven’t planned for them at this early stage.

Your watchword here is efficiency. Place a Turbine, add aWater Pumpif required, then place Toxin Scrubbers and Irrigators enough that your Turbine hopefully breaks even. Then make your next Turbine, hopefully complementing the previous one and expanding across the map. Remember theMineralizercan be super useful in this region, allowing you to make rock in far-flung areas of the map you may not have realized you can reach and then add a Turbine there.

How to Create a Tropical Forest

This is where things start to get tricky. You havefour biomesto create, and if you haven’t yet done anything to increase thetemperature or Humidity, several of them are currently impossible. Use aCloud Seederto raise the humidity enough that you can start to placeShadecloth Pillars. These pillars need to be anchored to cliffs, so are usually the trickiest biome to hit the target for while not really affecting much else. Once they’re done, you can leave them alone.

You may want to use a few Cloyd Seeders to push the Shadecloth Pillars from good production up toIdeal. This shouldn’t cost much, does no harm, and should easily pay for itself. Pillar placement takes a bit of practice, but it’s all about triangles. Just remembereach pillar can be part of several triangles, creating much larger coverage.

How to create Beech and Mangroves

Your best bet here is to compare the best places forHydroponeumsversusLittariums, as both will remove greenery while covering over Irrigators and Toxin Scrubbers respectively. For example, selecting Littarium will highlight all the potential Toxin Scrubbers they can be placed on. Make a mental note of how effective they will be, then do the same with the Hydroponeums on the Irrigators.

You should be OK for finances, asboth these buildings are profitable. So, you can build more if you need to, making these biome targets quite arbitrary. You may also want to consider theanimal habitatsbelow. Then simply addSalinatorsto create the Mangroves until you hit your target, adding more Irrigators and Toxin Scrubbers if required.

How to Create Coral Reef

With the other biomes complete, you can concentrate on building themonorail networkyou need to create Coral Reef. If you still need to raise the temperature to be able to use the Coral Lab, just be careful not todamage any of the other biomes you’ve created. It won’t stop you from completing the game but could result in someannoying backtracking.

Once the temperature is up to around 18 degrees, you can start to createCoral Labs. These are again built on top ofIrrigators, so you may need to build some new ones to hit your biome target. You’re also likely to need to use Mineralizers to create more rock because you need it for the placement ofMonorail Nodes. You’ll also want to be placing these nodes tocreate a complete network, rather than just making routes to the sea to place the coral, as you willneed this network for recyclinglater.

How to populate the Tropical Region with animals

If you’re just happy to hit the threeanimal typesrequired to complete the Tropical Region, there are some pretty easy options:

How to recycle all of your machines and complete the Tropical Region

We suggest placing yourAirshipandRecycling Stationrelatively close to the center of the map, but you need to be let first by your network ofMonorail Nodes. Note that once you’ve connected your network to the Recycling Station when you send aRecycling Beaconto a Monorail Node it will also recycle the node you send it to. So be sure to work from the very outside of your network back into the center.

You also haveRecycling Silosto help, and when used they don’t destroy Monorail Nodes, which is useful. The Recycling Beacon also only destroys the Node it is sent to, not others in its range. Remember theMineralizeris your friend when it comes to placing Nodes, as it can add rock to most sea locations to help you move across the map.
