Summer Game Fest is one of my favorite events in the gaming industry, and SGF 2023 did not disappoint. One highlight for me was the first gameplay reveal of Mortal Kombat 1. From characters and cameo fighters to fatalities and story details, Mortal Kombat 1 looks poised to be one of the best entries in the series.

Mortal Kombat 1 Story
The story of Mortal Kombat 1 is essentially a reboot, as Liu Kang resets the world after becoming God of Fire. This entry follows Mortal Kombat 11 but occurs in Liu Kang’s universe.
However, the reboot applies to the timeline and not necessarily the game series itself. We don’t have much more details on the game’s story yet, but I cannot wait to see what comes next. We’ll likely get more details as Mortal Kombat 1 gets closer to itsrelease date.
New and old characters
Many iconic fighters from the Mortal Kombat series are present in Mortal Kombat 1. However, players can expect new looks with the new timeline as God of Fire Liu Kang reboots the world.

Fatalities are back, to no one’s surprise, and lookmore brutal than ever. From breaking bones to slicing off limbs, players will practically feel like they are drenched in blood in real life as their favorite Mortal Kombat characters finish one another off. One that stood out to me was Scorpion’s fatality, which practically broke every bone and decapitated every limb of Johnny Cage.
