Traveling through the Starfield vast expanse is an integral gameplay part of Bethesda’s starfaring title. In-system navigation is easy enough, but when it comes to jumping between star systems, the crucial component in accomplishing such a monumental task is the ship’s gravity drive. The game doesn’t explain the mechanics and commands well enough, so it confused me at the beginning. This guide will help you if you don’t know how to power the gravity drive, so buckle up!

How to power the grav drive in Starfield

To power up the gravity drive in Starfield, you must redistribute the ship’s power to thegravity drivesystem. Once you sit in the cockpit, you will see the power gauge on the bottom left of the screen. Look for the GRV abbreviation and assign at least one power level to the gauge to activate the drive.

To assign power to the gravity drive on the PC and Xbox, follow the steps below:

Power distribution is critical to flying your ship in Starfield, especially for surviving space fights. Keep in mind you will sometimes need to take power out of a specific compartment to use it elsewhere (like shields) if you are taking a pounding. Remember you can alsoincrease the ship’s shield capacity, making it more effective in space combat.

How to grav jump mid-fight in Starfield

If the fight’s not going your way and you want to make a quick escape, you can get out of the systemby performing a mid-fight grav jump. You can still jump with only one power level, but the time to achieve it will be longer. To speed up the process, quickly boost your GRV gauge as high as possible.
