Currently, onlyone Pokémonevolves using the Dragon Scale in the Niantic mobile title: Gen 1 Dragon-type ‘monSeadra, who turns intoKingdra. Getting your hands on the evolution item isn’t as simple as you may expect, though.

To obtain a Dragon Scale, you need to spinPokéStops. While that sounds easy enough, the drop rate is brutal at1%—no, that’s not a typo. As if that wasn’t hard enough, you’ll also becompeting with other evolution itemslike the King’s Rock, the Upgrade, andthe Unova Stone, so it’s entirely possible you’ll see one of those before a Dragon Scale unless you’re really lucky.

There is a way toboost your chancesslightly, and that’s by spinning PokéStops forseven daysin a row to get the seven-day bonus, which is a guaranteed evolution item. But even then, there’s no guarantee you’ll get a Dragon Scale.

How to use a Dragon Scale in Pokémon GO

Once you have a Dragon Scale in hand, there’s something else you need to do before you can evolve your Seadra into Kingdra, and that’s to collect100 Horsea Candyby catching and/or transferring a bunch of Horsea and Seadra.

Only then will theEvolve buttonappear on your Seadra’s summary page. Click it, and the Pokémon will finally evolve into Kingdra using your Dragon Scale.
