Rolan is a Tiefling character in Baldur’s Gate 3. Commonly found at the Last Light Inn in Act 2, he bears a tragic story that unfolds after the completion of Act 2. While speaking to other NPCs, I learned he is unable to move on after having his twins captured in the cultist attack, and will disappear from the inn at a certain point, triggering theRolan in the Shadows quest. If you’re stuck with this quest as I was, this guide will help you with finding Rolan and saving him.
Rolan in the Shadows Walkthrough (BG3)
To successfully finish Rolan in the Shadows in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must first locate him after you notice him missing from the inn. If you talk to some children nearby, they will tell you he’s gone into theShadow Cursed Landsto findhis siblings in the Moonrise Towers. To complete the quest, you must ensure Rolan’s survival, as shadow enemies will attack him (so be sure to bring ahealerto your party).
How to Find Rolan in BG3 (Map)
To locate Rolan in Rolan in the Shadows quest in BG3, head over toward the Moonrise Towers. Instead of crossing the bridge to enter Moonrise, go east andcross the bridge south of the Trollhouse. Next, you will find Rolan near the water getting attacked by shadow enemies.

How to Keep Rolan Alive in Rolan in the Shadows Quest in BG3
To keep Rolan alive during the Rolan the Shadows quest in BG3, you must start healing him immediately once the combat begins. I recommend bringing Shadowheart for this task because her healing will make things much more manageable, but you may toss him a healing potion instead.
It’s best to defeat the shadow enemies as quickly as possible, or at least keep them from attacking Rolan to keep him alive (I used theHold Personspell to briefly hold one of the enemies back while bashing the other). After finishing the fight, Rolan will return to the Last Light Inn, where he will spend time waiting for you to free Cal and Lia from the Moonrise Towers.
