The goal for the first level in Chapter 2 is to file down a key matching a picture on the wall so you can unlock the Storage Room. Inside the Storage Room is the code to unlock the gate on the upper floor leading to the next level. However, while this may seem pretty straightforward, you’ll have to do this without being caught by the Caretaker at the same time. Here’s what you’re going to want to do:
How to unlock the Storage Room in Apeirophobia
Once you spawn into the hotel, your first step will be to approach thebox of keys on the tableand click on it to grab one. This is a blank key, which won’t open anything in its current state, but you’ll able to modify it, so always ensure you have one on you before leaving the spawn room.
As soon as you leave the spawn room, you will be vulnerable to the Caretaker’s attacks. To avoid being caught by him,enter any of the hotel roomsalong the way. He cannot attack you if you are inside one of the rooms. Listen closely for the sound of his teleportation. The first sound is a warning, and you’ll have a few seconds to make a run for a nearby room to stay safe.

How to file the key in Apeirophobia
Follow the arrows on the walls to get to the locked Storage Room. On the wall, just before the door, you’ll notice apicture of a key. You can approach this picture and click on it to start filing your key down to the proper shape. The key in the picture is the solution for the Storage Room. You’ll need tofile each spot shown in the image. However, there are a few things you’ll have to keep in mind for this puzzle:
To file your key properly, imagine the key in your hand upside down, as shown in the image (I labeled them with numbers to make it easier), and thenselect the file spot where the groove is shown. For example, the key image above has a groove just above the point, so that I would choose the first file spot. The groove has a more defined depth, so I wouldchoose the same file spottwo more times to make the depth match. you may file the same spot up to three times, meaning there are three depth sizes: one file, two files, and three files.
If you think you have the correct spots filed on your key, you can try it on the Storage Room door at any time to see if it unlocks. If it is not unlocking, you’ll have to try again by heading back to the spawn room and grabbing a new blank key to file again.

How to unlock the gate in the hotel in Apeirophobia
Once you’ve gotten your key filed down correctly and unlocked the Storage Room, you’ll find a code displayed inside. This code will help you unlock the gate on the upper floor and allow you to continue to the next level. Look around the hallways until you find aroom with a staircase. Go up the stairs, and you’ll find the padlocked gate.
The Watcher will speak to you here like he did at the Storage Room door. Interact with the padlock toenter the codethat you found. If you enter the code correctly, the gate will unlock, and you can step through to be teleported to the next level.
Don’t forget that The Caretaker is on the prowl, even as you’re filing your key or making your way to the upper level. Always listen for his teleport sounds and keep safe rooms nearby to ensure you can stay alive. You’ll have limited lives to use, so avoid him at all costs.
