A Brush of Seafoam and Crimson - Illusion’s Finishings is a Genshin Impact World Quest in the Ancient Colors: Act I quest chain. You run into a Melusine painted named Mamere, who’s being hassled to sell her artwork for Mora.
Other than the puzzles, most of the quest is fairly straightforward. I recommend using the Table of Contents below to direct you to the specific puzzle you need help with.
How to unlock the Ancient Colors quest chain in Genshin Impact
To unlock Ancient Colors: Act I - A Brush of Seafoam and Crimson, head to the exact area circled above, just slightly north of the Elynas Statue of The Seven. The blue exclamation mark will only appear if you’re nearby, so don’t worry if you don’t see it in your World Map right away. Once you get to the area, you’ll find a little Melusine being harassed by Eremites. Speak to her to initiate the World Quest.

After intervening in the exchange between the group, you’ll be forced to engage in battle against the Eremites (regardless of what dialogue option you choose).Defeat the Eremitesto gain Mamere’s trust. She’ll prompt you to go to her home in Merusea Village. To get there,follow our walkthrough on how to go to Merusea Village.
Once you reach Merusea Village, follow the quest navigator to Mamere’s house to trigger dialogue. After that, you’ll be asked to walk around. You can interact with various objects around the house, but to push the story forward,interact with the Bottleto the left of her abode. Next, follow the navigator to “A Lonely Place,” where you’ll be helping Mamere collect paint.
Use the prisms to resonate with the ore
Use aNormal Attackto hit the Prism (glowing red crystal)in the direction of the target(ore). This will prompt the Prism to release a blade in the same direction. The blade needs to hit the stone-covered ore to complete the objective. If you miss, try again.
Use the prisms to resonate with the ore again
For this segment, you must start with the Prism at the center of the clearing, on top of the small landform as pictured above. The other one isn’t activated, but we’ll take care of it later.
Use aNormal Attackto hit the Prism (glowing red crystal)in the direction of the target(ore). The released blade needs to hit the stone-covered ore to make it disappear.
Using thesame Prism, you need to target the unactivated Prism at the other side of the cave (where the arrow is pointing above). Use aNormal Attackto hit the Prism (glowing red crystal)in the direction of the target(unactivated Prism). The released blade needs to hit the target Prism to make it glow, activating it.
Now that the second Prism has been activated, we can use it to destroy the final stone-covered crystal. Use aNormal Attackto hit the Prism (glowing red crystal)in the direction of the target(ore). The released blade needs to hit the stone-covered ore to make it disappear.
After completing the objective above, follow the navigator to find Mamere and speak with her. Then, enter the pink portal leading to “A Very Warm Place.” Wait to be teleported to the new location, where dialogue and a puzzle will automatically trigger.

Adjust the position of the prism to let it resonate with the ore (2/2)
In this segment, you’ll be able to move the Prisms around the solve the puzzle. But first, start with the Prism directly in front of the stone-covered ore. Without moving it, use aNormal Attackto hit the Prism (glowing red crystal)in the direction of the target(ore). The released blade needs to hit the stone-covered ore to make it disappear.
Next,interact with the Prismto move it until it’s aligned with the unactivated Prism on the left. Once they’re aligned, use aNormal Attackto hit the Prism (glowing red crystal)in the direction of the target(unactivated Prism). The released blade needs to hit the target Prism to make it glow, activating it.
Now that the second Prism is activated, move it until it’sas close to the waterfall as possible. See the second image above for the desired position. The game won’t allow you to move it any further.
Once that’s done, head to the waterfall to find a third Prism, which is unactivated.Interact with the third Prismto move it, then stand in a position where you’re aligned with the second prism (see second image above). In that position, hit thespecial interaction button(T for PC—check the bottom of your screen for the exact control) to place the third Prism.
The three Prisms should now be aligned like the third image above.
Go back to thesecond Prism, which we need to use to activate the third Prism. Use aNormal Attackto hit the Prism (glowing red crystal)in the direction of the target(unactivated Prism). The released blade needs to hit the target Prism to make it glow, activating it.
Finally, we need to use thethird Prismto resonate with the second ore. Use aNormal Attackto hit the Prism (glowing red crystal)in the direction of the target(ore). The released blade needs to hit the stone-covered ore to make it disappear. You’ll receive an Exquisite Chest for your effort.
Return to the glowing spot by the portal to trigger dialogue with Mamere. After that, follow the navigator back to Mamere’s house in Merusea Village. After the dialogue with the intruders,defeat the Eremitesto complete the World Quest. You’ll automatically unlock the Ancient Colors: Act II - A Gradient of Dreams and Ocre.
