Getting new gear is the name of the game in Diablo 4, and much of your time leveling and going into the endgame will be spent doing that. Here’s a look at what the max Item Power is and what it means to you.

What’s the max Item Power in Diablo 4?

You’ll notice a piece of loot you pick up will have an Item Power number just above its DPS, and that will be an important number to look at. When you first start your character and begin playing, that number will be low, but as you level up and get further into the game, it can enter the high hundreds.

The Item Power scales with you as you’re leveling up, and for all intents and purposes, the max Item Power is 725 as that’ll get you into the final Item Level Breakpoint. Now let’s dive into what that means.

What’s the Item Level Breakpoint in Diablo 4?

There are a total of six stages of Item Levels in Diablo 4, and they will determine how good the stats can get on your gear. It goes like this, so keep this in mind when you’re spending you’re hard earnedCoiling Wards.

If you have a piece of gear you like to use that’s near one of these breaking points, that would be something you should prioritize with your upgrades. Doing this would typically ramp up your damage significantly, so it’s worth doing. An example of this would be having a weapon that grants you +2 of a certain skill, let’s use Tornado in this case if you’releveling a Druid.

Weapons and gear will typically show you how high you may upgrade something, and it might say it stops at +2 Tornado, but that’s because it’s in a certain Item Level Breakpoint. Upgrading a weapon to push it into the next tier could unlock +3 for the Tornado skill, and that’s why it’s important to save your materials for gear that’s close to a breakpoint. It will definitely take some trial and error, and it can still be worth it to upgrade gear that’s not near a breakpoint if you’re struggling to kill mobs and bosses with ease.
