With several expansions under its belt, Destiny 2 remains as popular as ever. And though it’s on PC and console, the introduction of Valve’s Steam Deck handheld that allows players to experience their favorite games on the go has players asking whether they can play Destiny 2 on the Steam Deck or not. Here’s what you need to know about saving the galaxy portably.

Is Destiny 2 playable on Steam Deck?

Bungie has confirmedon its help page thatDestiny 2 is not supported on the Steam Deckor any system utilizing Steam Play’s Proton unlessWindowsis installed and running. If a player tries to launch Destiny 2 on the Steam Deck either through SteamOS or Proton, they will not be able to play. Instead, they will be forced back to their game library shortly after attempting to boot the game up.

This makes me incredibly sad because, as both a seasoned Destiny 2 player and a Steam Deck fanatic, the ability to play Crucible or Raids on the go would be an absolute dream. Sadly, it appears as though that’s all it ever will be.

Will I be banned for trying to play Destiny 2 on Steam Deck?

Bungie has also clarified that any attempt to bypass Destiny 2’s incompatibility will be met with agame ban. This is due to the game being easily hackable on Linux, which is what the handheld runs off on, and the developer wanting to take zero chances of its meta being exploited by lack of anti-cheat. I understand their reasoning, but I wish they’d find a way to allow it to run on SteamOS, at least.
