Managing your characters' progress is one of the most important parts of Baldur’s Gate 3. After all, stats determine everything from conversation to combat. When I decided I wanted to change mycompanion’sclass, I learned the process wasn’t quite as simple as I expected. Here’s everything you need to know to respec characters in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Can you Respec in BG3?

Yes, you can respecin Baldur’s Gate 3. To do it, you need to recruit a special NPC namedWithers. He’s an undead skeleton that, once unlocked, will become a permanent member of your Camp. In addition to respecing characters, he canrevive dead party membersand provide you withHirelings—characters who will temporarily join your party. They’re not quite as interactive as your faithful companions, but if you need a certain class, they’ll do in a pinch.

How to Unlock Withers in Baldur’s Gate 3

Withers is located in theDank Crypt—a section of the temple ruins found in Act One. This is one of the first areas you come across, and is just down the road from theRoadside Cliffswaypoint. You’ll need to make your way inside the ruins, potentially fighting through a few enemies along the way.

Once you enter the Dank Crypt, make your way through the Heavy Oak Doors to your left and head to the northwest corner of the room(X:-300 Y:-234). You’ll find a button next to a suspiciously archway-shaped section of the wall, pictured above. Press it and the wall will come down, but be warned: the skeletons lying around the room will jump up and turn hostile.

After you’ve defeated them, head inside the small room you’ve discovered. Interact with theRichly Adorned Sarcophagus, and Withers the skeleton will emerge. At first, I thought this would be a boss fight, but Withersdoes not respond to attacksand will never turn hostile. Feel free to answer his questions however you wish. He will later show up at your camp.
