Sons of the Forest is about survival on a desolate island full of cannibals and mutants. And to survive, you will need weapons. Every weapon you can get — be it a simple club or a fully-kitted shotgun — will play an invaluable role in keeping you alive. Firearms are great and give you a significant edge, but they can run out of ammunition, which is why melee weapons play an essential role as well! I have assembled a list of all weapons in the game and how to obtain them in Sons of the Forest; see it below.
Sons of the Forest - Complete Weapons List
Many different weapons are strewn across the island in Sons of the Forest. Finding them can sometimes be tricky, or you will need a particular tool, like a shovel or a rope gun, to access them. This guide will cover each weapon individually, mention its location, and how to get to it.
How to get a Pistol in Sons of the Forest
You can find the pistol in Sons of the Forest at two locations:
The first one will be easier to obtain, as the second location becomes available later in the game. Be cautious if you’re going for the pistol in the raft because you will encounter sharks while swimming in the bay.
How to get a Shotgun in Sons of the Forest
You’ll need the shovel first to get theShotgunin Sons of the Forest. The shotgun is buried in the casket marked by a cross in a valley near the bay with the life raft. You will find this location easily because it’s the second land location with a purple marker.
How to get a Stun Gun and Stun Baton in Sons of the Forest
The Stun Gun and Stun Baton are non-lethal weapons in Sons of the Forest but are extremely useful in incapacitating enemies, setting them up for you to hit them with something bigger.
How to get the Revolver in Sons of the Forest
Getting aRevolverin Sons of the Forest requires digging, so you’ll need to have the Shovel to obtain this weapon. Go to the GPS location indicated in the image above and find a golf cart. You’ll need to access the hatch marked with Maintenance C, open it, and climb the ladder down. Once you get down, walk up to the first room on your right, enter it, and look for the corpse of a maintenance worker; he will have a Revolver in front of him.

How to get the Crossbow in Sons of the Forest
you’re able to find the Crossbow at theFood and Diningbunker in Sons of the Forest. You will also need to acquire the Rebreather,Rope Gun, andShovelin that order before attempting to get the Maintenance Keycard and unlock the bunker to get the Crossbow. Once you obtain the keycard, go to the location with the green marker on the GPS locator in the image above. After you unlock the Maintenance door inside Food and Dining hatch, the Crossbow will be waiting for you in the second room, near a dead body on the right by the shelves.
How to get the Compound Bow in Sons of the Forest
You must obtain the Shovel first to get theCompound Bowin Sons of the Forest. Next, go to the location on the GPS locator in the image above to find a site surrounded by a few theodolites on tripod stands. Start digging to uncover a maintenance hatch, then open the hatch and climb the ladders down. Walk down the hallway and enter the first room to your right; the Compound Bow will be lying next to a dead body leaning on the bathtub in the toilet.
How to get the Katana in Sons of the Forest
You must have the Maintenance Keycard first to obtain theKatanain Sons of the Forest. After you get it, go to the southernmost green marker on the eastern half of the map. You will be able to obtain the Pistol in this bunker. After you enter the bunker, go down one flight of stairs and through the second open door on the right. Inside this room, you’ll find the Katana on display next to a bed.
How to get the Machete in Sons of the Forest
Getting aMachetein Sons of the Forest will be a straightforward task. Travel to the area below the bay that has an emergency raft (where you find the Pistol). Go to the side opposite the cave entrance, follow the beach, and find a small ruined camp. There will be two tents, a soldier’s body, some loot, and three deflated dinghies. Approach the two near the water; you will see the machete stuck into the one further from the waterline.

How to get the Chainsaw in Sons of the Forest
To find theChainsawin Sons of the Forest, you must obtain the Maintenance keycard first. The Chainsaw is in a facility at the central green marker on the west side of the map. This is the same location where you find theGuest keycard.
How to get the Modern Axe in Sons of the Forest
To get the Modern Axe in Sons of the Forest, head over to the camp marked on the GPS locator by referring to the image above. The camp is in close proximity to the crash site on the beach and the one in the mountains, so you can get this weapon early in the game. I recommend getting this weapon as early as possible because it’s superior to the Tactical Axe in every way and will make the overall game progression much easier.
How to get the Putter in Sons of the Forest
You can get the Putter at the same bunker where you find the Katana in Sons of the Forest. Go to the bunker near the great lake in the eastern part of the map (a green dot on the GPS locator marks it).
How to get the Firefighter Axe in Sons of the Forest
you may obtain the Firefighter Axe in Sons of the Forest at the same bunker you can find the Maintenance Keycard. The bunker is located at the middle green blip on the western side of the map. You will need the Shovel to dig up the entrance.
How to get the Guitar in Sons of the Forest
To get the Guitar in Sons of the Forest, you need to go to the same facility where you may obtain the Guest Keycard.
How to get the Rifle in Sons of the Forest
To get a Rifle in Sons of the Forest, visit the Cultist Cave entrance by the great lake on the eastern part of the map. A huge rock will be overarching the entrance, so you can’t miss it. Travel to the location I marked on the GPS coordinates in the image above, and be sure to take a Rebreather with you.
How to get the Slingshot in Sons of the Forest
You can get the Slingshot in Sons of the Forest by visiting the same cave where you can find the Shovel. Look for an area marked by the green dot on the GPS locator, as shown in the image above. There will be three corpses stuck on stakes near the cave entrance. Approach the middle corpse andpress Eto get the Slingshot from it.
How to get the Cross in Sons of the Forest
you may get the Cross in Sons of the Forest at two separate locations:
You will encounter the cave with the Rope Gun much earlier in the game. While inside, instead of going to the left and exploring the rest of the cave, find the Cross on the ground on the opposite side by a corpse. It will not be handy to you until the very end of the game because while the cannibals react to the Cross if you point it at them, it doesn’t physically harm them; it only works against the demons you encounter in the last Magma cave.
If you missed the first opportunity to obtain the Cross, you can find it again in the Arm door bunker, just before the section where you’ll need to use it. The Cross is on the bed located in front of a giant screen showing red flowers.
