With more and more players getting their hands on a PS5 as the days go on, it’s worth knowing what games from the PS4 library get a boost on the new hardware. Here’s a look at what games offer a free upgrade from the PS4 to the PS5 version.
PS4 games with free upgrades to PS5
Many games released around the launch of the PS5 came with free upgrades to Sony’s new console, so players wouldn’t have to worry about repurchasing a game in the future. This doesn’t apply to every game released, but players might be surprised to see just how many games have free upgrades.

How long does the PS4 to PS5 upgrade offer last?
Games with the free upgrade path will presumably keep that forever, but more and more games are phasing out the offers as the PS5 becomes easier to find. TheResident Evil 4 Remakeis an example of a game still keeping the upgrade path, but annual sports titles have begun to stop offering it.
The NBA 2K series has separated the franchise by offering a current-gen version, meaning PS4 and Xbox One, while the Next-Gen version is exclusive to Xbox Series X|S and PS5. There is no free upgrade available for that game, but there are still developers keeping the program alive, as we’ve seen with Capcom.
